Anansi: Do you have any reading rituals?
Vicki: I lurve reading on the subway and streetcar--makes the trips that much shorter, although I guess I miss my stops from time to time. Before bedtime doesn't always work for me, but I try to make time every weekend for a chunk o' good reading.
Anansi: Do you consider yourself a "careful reader" or do you devour a book in one sitting?
Vicki: I'm a too-careful reader, methinks, but I've always been that way. In fact, I have this bad habit of conscientiously reading whatever I start to the finish, even when, er, it turns out to be not so good. Fortunately, I would say that about 95% of what I select to read is delicious.
Anansi: Do you have a favourite Anansi author or book?
Vicki: I look forward to the Griffin Poetry Prize anthologies every year - they are always a revelation. Right now, my fondest Anansi fave is Lisa Moore's Alligator, which I read this spring right after my first visit to Newfoundland. (In fact, I read about the first 200 pages of it on the plane home, which was a great way to wind up a wonderful trip.)
